Madonna of the Barn

This icon was given to my brother-in-law by one of his clients. It is  a German print and originally belonged to the client's parents who were Polish immigrants. It had been in her barn for many years.

I'm working on cleaning the frame and placing the print in a mat so that he can hang it in his office.

This image is known as the "Black Madonna," and is one of the most revered icons in Poland, if not in Europe.

Here is a link to information about the, "Black Madonna," and the legends that surround it.

Yoyos On My Mind

Sketches for large textile pieces. Top L-R: Kudzu, Invasion (of the Apple Snail). Bottom L-R: River of Blood, Sustenance, Moonlight, Vine.

Working on some new ideas for large textile pieces.
I am thinking yoyos.
Not the toy-with-a-string yoyo; the fabric yoyo or "Suffolk Puff" - hundreds of them.
I am presently sewing black ones for the black and red idea on the far left.

These ideas are definitely out of my comfort zone and very exciting.
I have been consulting with my sister the Textile Queen.
I've also bounce some ideas off of textile artist, Leslie Gruesbeck.

I'll keep you posted on my progress.
